Did you know? The first OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro is expected on 28 Oct, but reportedly not every model gets the M6 chip
Apple has sent invites for a 28 October event. Here's what's rumoured about the OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro, the M6 models and the new iMac, plus current MacBook Pro prices in Malaysia.

In this article
Apple fans, get ready. Apple has sent out invites for an event on 28 October 2026 in Los Angeles, and all eyes are on one thing: the first MacBook Pro with an OLED display and a touchscreen.
But here's a detail many people have missed. According to Bloomberg, that OLED MacBook Pro reportedly won't use the M6 chip. Let's separate what's official from what's still rumour.
Important: Apart from the event date, every product detail in this article comes from rumours and media reports, not Apple. We'll update it once Apple makes things official.
What's official so far
- Apple has sent invites for an event on 28 October in Los Angeles.
- Apple executive Greg Joswiak posted on 19 October: "Can't wait to pro and tell next week." Many took "pro" as an early hint.
- According to MacRumors, the event will reportedly have no livestream, with only some media invited.

The rumour: an OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman (as summarised by Notebookcheck) and MacRumors:
- An OLED display replaces mini-LED for richer colours and deeper blacks. It would be the first Mac with OLED.
- A touchscreen for the first time on a Mac, alongside the keyboard and trackpad rather than replacing them.
- An iPhone-style Dynamic Island is expected to replace the camera notch.
- A thinner, lighter body, with a reinforced hinge so the screen doesn't wobble when tapped.
- 14-inch and 16-inch sizes.
- M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, not M6. The big upgrades are the display, design and input.

So where does M6 come in?
According to the same reports, the M6 chip is expected in:
- An entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with a conventional (non-OLED) display
- A new 24-inch iMac, replacing the 2024 M4 model, possibly in new colours
Other reports also mention a new iPad mini with an OLED display, but that hasn't been confirmed.

Did you know? The name "MacBook Ultra" was floated for this OLED model. But according to MacRumors, the "Pro" name is expected to stay, fitting the "pro and tell" tagline.
Price: expected to cost more
There's no official price yet. Notebookcheck reports that pricier OLED panels could push starting prices up by as much as USD500 over current models (USD2,499 for the 14-inch and USD2,999 for the 16-inch in the US). MacRumors also expects the OLED models to sit above the existing MacBook Pros, which are expected to stay on sale for a while.
For reference, here are MacBook Pro prices in Malaysia after Apple's June 2026 price increase (according to Lowyat.NET):
| Model | Malaysia price |
|---|---|
| MacBook Pro 14" M5 (16GB/1TB) | RM8,299 |
| MacBook Pro 14" M5 Pro (24GB/1TB) | RM10,299 |
| MacBook Pro 16" M5 Pro (24GB/1TB) | RM12,499 |
| MacBook Pro 14" M5 Max (36GB/2TB) | RM17,599 |
| MacBook Pro 16" M5 Max (36GB/2TB) | RM18,499 |

When can you buy one?
According to MacRumors, the OLED MacBook Pro could go on sale as early as 6 November in the US. For Malaysia, dates and prices will only be known once Apple announces them.
So, wait or buy now?
- Want a touchscreen and OLED: wait for the 28 Oct announcement first.
- Everyday work on a tighter budget: today's M5 MacBook Pro is still fast, and retailers sometimes discount older models once new ones arrive.
Would you actually use a touchscreen on a MacBook, or don't you need one?
