Apple finally made a foldable. The iPhone Duo went on sale in Malaysia on 23 October 2026, starting at RM9,499, and Malaysia was among the first countries to get it.

The catch? Actually getting one. On launch morning, people queued at Apple Store TRX from 6am even though there was no walk-in stock. Order online from Apple today and the estimated delivery is late January 2027.

It comes in two colours: Star White and Night Sky. In the US, it starts at US$1,999.

Malaysian pre-orders opened on 16 October at 8pm, and SoyaCincau reported they mostly sold out. In the box you get the phone and a USB-C cable, with no charging adapter.

Buying from an authorised reseller? When we checked on 24 October 2026, official stores on Shopee and Lazada were still taking pre-orders, with estimated delivery varying by store (from early November 2026 to late January 2027).

What RM9,499 gets you

  • Two screens: a 5.4-inch outer display when closed, and a 7.6-inch inner display when open. Both run ProMotion at up to 120Hz.
  • Thinnest and heaviest: just 5.2mm open (the thinnest iPhone yet), but 254g (the heaviest iPhone yet). Closed, it's 11.3mm thick.
  • A20 Pro chipset, the same as the iPhone 18 Pro.
  • Rear cameras: 48MP Fusion Main and 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide, with 2x optical-quality zoom from the main camera.
  • Battery: up to 24 hours of typical use, according to Apple.
  • Everything else: titanium body, IP68 water and dust resistance, and eSIM only, with no physical SIM slot.

That inner screen is basically a small iPad, with room for two apps side by side. If you watch a lot of Netflix or work on your phone, this is the big draw.

What you give up (that many people miss)

First-generation foldables always come with compromises. According to 9to5Mac's review:

  • No Face ID. It's replaced by Touch ID in the side button.
  • No dedicated telephoto camera. The main camera is also a notch below the iPhone 18 Pro's.
  • No Action button.
  • Speakers sound thinner and quieter than the iPhone 18 Pro's.
  • Lots of apps aren't optimised for the folding screen yet.
  • The crease is still there. It's hard to notice in normal use, but visible in bright light against a dark screen.

Did you know? Without AppleCare+, repairing the inner screen in Malaysia costs RM4,749, half the price of the phone itself. With AppleCare+ (RM1,499), that drops to RM469.

Why does everyone want one?

Because it's the first foldable iPhone, and Apple fans have waited a long time for it. Early reviews have been mostly positive. 9to5Mac called it a glimpse of the iPhone's future, but still recommends a regular iPhone for most people because of the price.

Who is it for?

  • Go for it: you want a big screen in your pocket, love multitasking, and budget isn't a concern.
  • Hold off: you love Face ID, want the best zoom camera, or hate heavy phones. The iPhone 18 Pro makes more sense.

Would you wait until January for a foldable iPhone, or is a regular iPhone enough?
